Предисловие
Настоящее учебное пособие предназначено для старших школьников, студентов и взрослых с уровнем владения английским языком не ниже среднего. Авторы
This textbook is intended for high school students, university students, and adults with at least an intermediate level of English. It can be used as supplementary material in various learning environments. The main goal of the book is to develop oral communication skills for everyday situations in modern, neutral, and conversational English.
The book offers practical exercises aimed at building vocabulary and improving speaking skills in typical daily contexts. It is designed for a wide range of learners who are already familiar with the basic lexical and grammatical structures of English. The textbook does not include outdated or strictly literary expressions.

Language notes. Примечания
College – When Americans talk about going to college, the word «college» is often used interchangeably with «university». For example, «Where did you go to college?» «I went to the University of Arizona».
What a small world! – This expression shows surprise when two people who have never met before realize that they know someone or have something in common or when two old friends see each other unexpectedly in a place far from home.
Run into – To see them by chance (to run across, to bump into, to crash into).
No way! – I can’t believe it. Or, what a surprise!
Run out – When something has been completely used, the food has been eaten (to be used up, to be finished, to expire, to terminate, to end).

Gossip – talking about people’s personal lives and spreading rumors (to discuss things, to shoot the breeze. A gossip – a scandal, rumors, a goss)
Oh, my gosh! – a version of «Oh, my God» which many people find offensive.
Going out – the meaning is similar to Dating but a little less serious (to be someone’s boyfriend/girlfriend, to be in a relationship with) /
Broke up – finished the relationship (to break up – to split up, to separate, to divorce).
Ask someone on a date – to ask someone to go out for dinner, movies, etc.
Juicy gossip – shocking or scandalous rumors about someone.
A good match – a good couple, made for each other, fit well together (a soul mate, a sweetheart).
She’s his type – she has the kind of personality, character or looks that he wants in his girlfriend.
Outgoing – communicative, sociable, lively, talkative, friendly.
Quite a mouse – a very shy person who doesn’t like to talk.
He dumped her – he broke up with her (to dump – to throw away/out, to get rid of).
Plenty of fish in the sea – there are many other men and women in the world that a person can meet.
